Wednesday, November 28th, 2007Boise Blogger meet up
Tuesday, November 27th, 2007Don’t be shocked faithful reader… or two. I am posting 2 posts on the same day. How much more exciting could this blog get?
Reason for post: This guy here wants to meet up with Boise bloggers and these guys over here are going to get something going as well. Seems the latter have done it before and feel the need to do it again since the first guy is going to do it. I’m gonna go along just for the ride. Should be interesting.

Boise Towne Square Mall has an actual stampede
Saturday, November 24th, 2007This is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard in a long while.
10,000 people showed up at the mall hoping to get some good deals and possibly a gift bag. Some started lining up as early as Thanksgiving afternoon according to this article.
What is Christmas becoming? The Mall opens the doors at 1 a.m. to kick off the shopping season and it turns into an embarrassment for the city as reported by the Consumerist.com. Don’t forget to read through the comments so you can see how Boise represented itself to the Nation… the World even.
Is this becoming the trend? No… not shopping for Christmas on the day after thanksgiving… But the chaos and disregard for your fellow human being in hopes of elbowing your way to savings.
The day has been known as Black Friday for a long time. Maybe now it won’t be called Black Friday because it is traditionally the day retailers hope to get out of the “red” and into the “black” financially. But, instead, for another more obvious reason.
My roommate had planned on going to the Mall to get in on the shopping and possibly get a gift bag. She didn’t make it and later told me she was glad her, her sister, and mother didn’t go.
Man Robbed at Gun Point in Downtown Boise
Saturday, November 17th, 2007Something about this story just doesn’t hold any water for me.
Boise, Idaho– Just after nine Saturday night, police received a report from a man who says he was mugged at gun point in downtown Boise.
The alleged victim was at 13th and Fort Street when he was approached from behind.
Reports show, the suspect claimed to have a shotgun and demanded the victim’s phone and wallet.
In an unusual twist, the man recognized his attacker.
“Well he identified the suspect. He was familiar with who the person was. Gave us a home and where he believed the person lived. Officers were the area at that time, saw a person walking down the street who matched the description,” said Chad Wigington, with the Boise Police Department.
24 year old, Douglas Pineo, was arrested and has been booked on a felony robbery charge.
Questions I have:
- Who uses a shotgun to rob someone on the street?
- Did the officers see the man carrying a shotgun when they saw him walking down the street?
- If the ‘victim’ knew the ‘attacker’ well enough to know where he lived, then I would think the attacker would have known the victim well enough to recognize him walking down the street?
- Why wasn’t Mr. Pineo booked on armed robbery charges? Do the police doubt the ‘victims’ claims of a shotgun?
I think there is more to this story.
Boise State has Parking Problems???
Tuesday, November 6th, 2007According to this article found through this site, Boise State University has parking problems. Well, to be honest with you this is not news to me. I attended BSU a few years back and I too did my fair share of walking. My favorite spot, at that time, which usually produced a parking spot for me was by that church on Boise Avenue. I don’t know how it is doing today. Either way there is a problem.
The purpose of this writing is not for me to complain about the parking nor is it to provide my well thought out solution to the problem either. But, instead, it is to pass on an opportunity for the local residents to make an extra buck. Or for a saavy young entrepreneur to make a little extra themselves.
When I would go to school, like everyone, I would park and walk. I’d park at the church and walk passed 20 houses it seemed that all had these wonderful parking spaces called driveways. I kept thinking that these people who lived in these homes were passing up a great opportunity. They would be at work all day leaving this little patch of concrete sitting there doing nothing when it could be… making money.
Here is my idea. A single person could very easily coordinate the renting of these spots. (me? no, I don’t have time, I got other things going) All you would do is make up fliers telling local residents about the idea. Any resident who gets back to you would be added to the list. A college person seeking a spot of their own would contact the parking spot coordinator. Voila. The deed is done. Some details would have to be worked out of course to ensure there is no abuse of the spot i.e. parking there overnight when you are supposed to be gone by 4 p.m. or whatever.
The rates would be comparable to the local parking garage and the coordinator would take their cut of course and the homeowner would get the bulk of the money.
